Community Policing
At the present time the North Hanover Township Police Department embarks
on its fourth year of successful community policing. Community policing
has always been a part of the North Hanover Township Police Departments
efforts in protecting our community and assisting residents in need.
Just recently since the calendar year of 2000 our police department
recognized the need to meet the ever increasing day to day problems
faced by residents living within our community. Community policing
target, then identifies these problems then takes the initiation of
action to resolve these problems through actual police citizen contacts.
The North Hanover Township Police Department takes a proactive roll in
community policing rather then a reactive roll. In other words stopping
a problem before it becomes a problem. Some of the community policing
efforts include, physical checks of residences where the owners are
absent or on vacation, physical checks of businesses during operation
hours and after closing time, on view security checks of apartment
complexes, mobile home parks and residential subdivisions. In addition
to these efforts our police department has effectively reduced crime in
problem areas by conducting foot-patrols. Foot-patrols are when
officers actually exit their patrol cars making physical contact with
the residents in these problem areas to better understand what the
problems are so action can be taken to resolve them. In many cases the
officers make contact with children and young adults at which time a
positive rapport is built between them and the police.
North Hanover Township Police Department remains available for our
mutual concern to keep North Hanover Township a safe and enjoyable place
to live. To report a problem, request a vacation check or community
policing in your area please call the North Hanover Township Police
Department at (609) 758-3351
