Census Day!

April 1, 2010 is the deadline to respond to the 2010 Census questionnaires, which are being mailed or delivered to households between February and March 2010. Throughout the months of May through July, Census takers visit households that did not return a questionnair by mail. By law, the Census Bureau must deliver the population counts to the President by December 2010 and complete the delivery of redistricting data to the States by March 2011. The correct count is very important to small municipalities. The State of New Jersey cut aid over the past two years to municipalities with populations under 10,000. In the 1990 Census, North Hanover's population was nearly 10,000, but the year 2000 Census showed a significant drop to 7,800 due to the exclusion of the development known as Falcon Courts North, which house military personnel. By law, these residents must claim North Hanover as their residence. The Township has worked very hard to ensure that the Census Bureau has the most current address list, please make sure you do your part and take ten minutes to fill out your Census. If everyone were to fill out and return their Census, the population of North Hanover could reach 10,000, and under the current law, this could improve the amount of State Aid we recieve, which could stabilize or reduce your local tax rate.
