Farmland Preservation
Preserving Our Heritage
Families have been farming the land in North Hanover since before the revolutionary war and several farms and buildings from that
period still exist (visit our Historical Commission Page). We our proud of our heritage and
beleive in preserving it.
Preserving Our Lifestlye
Our friends and neighbors, whether born here or recently relocated, all agree that our rural character sets us apart from other communities.
It is an aspect of our town of which we are most proud.
Preserving Our Farmland
North Hanover is one of the leaders in the Burlington County Farmland Preservation program. Nearly $9.7
million of state and county funds, coupled with $1.3 million of local
tax dollars have been utilized to date. So far we have:
- Preserved 24 properties -- over 3,000 acres of farmland that will never be developed.
- Enacted a Wastewater Management Plan that prohibits public sewers in North Hanover.
- Received certification from the State Council on Affordable Housing that shields North Hanover from high density housing development.
- Obtained a State Planning Incentive Grant that will set aside $3.3 million over five years which will be used to help preserve an additional 1,200 acres of farmland.
North Hanover is the only municipality in Burlington County to receive this grant.
